COMPAGNIE is a 4-minute short film about loneliness. The story unfolds over a quiet dinner between two characters, Valentin and Rebecca. Their conversation is suddenly interrupted by a ringtone, revealing that both characters are, in fact, alone. Rebecca is actually recording a video meant to provide companionship for anyone who might feel isolated during a meal. Valentin, part of her intended audience, is watching the video as if she were there dining with him.
The film reflects a familiar experience for people seeking human connection in daily life. Social isolation here is seen as a gap in both the quantity and quality of social interactions. In a world increasingly shaped by technology and social media, the ideas of connection and interaction lie at the heart of modern society. Yet, the isolation brought about by these technologies is real—and sometimes deeply concerning.
